Dua-e-Kumail in Gujarati and English
Alhamdulillah, one of the signs by which our community is recognised is that we recite Dua-e-Kumail every Thursday night.

According to the Sura Al-Nisa (4:82) and the Sura Muhammad (47:24) of the Holy Qur’an, Allah (swt) expects us to think about and reflect upon what is in the Holy Qur’an. Amongst other things the Holy Qur’an contains a wealth of duas and we are of course expected to think about and reflect upon that too! By definition should we not then make an effort to understand and reinforce our understanding of what is contained in Dua-e-Kumail ?

In one of his majalis’s at Hujjat Imambara, a prominent Zakir discussed the significance of this Dua and expressed his gratification that he belonged to the community, which religiously recited the Dua at least once a week. In the same breath, he also expressed his disappointment that the recitation was always in Arabic, which most people in our community did not understand. He pleaded with the community to occasionally listen to its translation to understand the beauty of this Dua, to understand what we were saying to Allah (swt) in its recitation.

He urged the community members to recognise that this Dua is a treasure that we have inherited from our first Imam Hazrat Ali (AS) and Inshallah we would pass on to the future generations for them to benefit as well. Then he posed the question; why not benefit from this treasure ourselves by listening to its translation? The Zakir posed this question from the Mimber several years ago. Alhamdulillah, the recitation of the translation of Dua-e-Kumail in Gujarati and in English is now an established part of our Thursday evening programme at Hujjat Imambara. The translated version is recited on the last Thursday of each month as noted in this calendar.
