English Listening Centre (ELC) The history of Majalis in English at our centre dates back to 1985, when they were held regularly in the Annexe building. However, at this time only gents were able to benefit from the programmes. It was then decided to have a centre, which served both ladies and gents - this led to the creation of the English Listening Centre. Alhamdulillah, the English Listening Centre has now been running for many years. It was opened during Ashra-e-Zainabiyya 1419 (June 1999) and has been primarily created to facilitate Majalis in the English Language when the programme in the Main Hall is in Urdu or Gujarati. The ELC programmes usually run on the first floor of Hujjat Imambara parallel to the programme in the main hall and are open to both ladies and gents. They are coordinated by the ELC Committee, whose vision it is to offer first class and highly effective programmes in English that make a real difference to the lives of all attendees. The ELC committee also endeavours to provide other forms of religious programmes in affiliation with Stanmore Jafferys including specialised seminars and debates to stimulate the intellectual mind. The ELC also has an Internet Mailing List through which announcements of forthcoming events are sent. If you would like to receive these announcements, please submit your e-mail address to:
