News

Dear Members, Salaamun Alaykum

Following on from feedback received over the past few years, the EC of KSIMC of London is pleased to announce that, Insha'Allah, Al-hajj Dr Usama Ulatar, will be gracing us with his presence during the last 12 nights of Shahr-Ramadhan 1435AH. He will lead various recitations of Duas, A'maals, Qu'ran, Muna'jaat as well as lecturing in English during the Nights of Laylatul Qadr. Full information of his recitations will be published on our website nearer the time.

Al-Hajj Dr. Usama Ulatar, a native of the holy city of Karbala, is well known for his beautiful recitations of the Holy Qur’an, Anasheed, Qasida and Latmiyyat. He has lectured at various centers around the world. Dr. Ulatar has a PhD in Chemistry from the Simon Fraser University (in Vancouver, Canada) and was a post-doctoral fellow at the University of Alberta, Canada.  He has published numerous papers on diabetes, cancer research and recently on kidney stones.

We hope his recitations will lift the spirituality of the whole community during the last 12 nights of Shahr-Ramadhan.

Our Own School?
News

Dear Members, Salaamun Alaykum

A community school has always been an ambition aspired by every community and more so ours wherever we have been stationed. Back in East Africa, it was the lack of quality education in government run schools that motivated us to have our own schools which we, as a community, successfully run in Kenya, Tanzania, Madagascar and even in Pakistan and India.

Moving to the West, whilst we found reasonable quality of education available in government run schools, we faced different challenges. Now, the challenges that motivate us to have our own schools are determined by our dedication to maintain our core values as taught to us by both our religion and our culture. Thus, Canada and the US have both flourished in having our own schools.

The concept was ot have a similar quality of education as regulated by the governments of the countries we reside in and to simultaneously provide an environment conducive to maintaining our core values.

In the UK, the government has now initiated a drive in which they will support efforts made by local communities to set up their own schools – within certain parameters governed by them.

Instead of relying on private funding for a private school, the current EC of the KSIMC believe we have to exploit the opportunities granted to us by the government to set up our own school.

To this end, we invited members of the community in the field of education to join hands with us to embark on this task of establishing our own school. We have had two meetings in the past to decide a roadmap on moving forward and are now proceeding to apply to the government for a free school by appointing a professional consultancy firm to handle our application. This firm will be assisted by members of our community determined to establish our own school.

We would like to invite your thoughts as we progress.

If you are a parent – we would like to welcome your opinion on our own free school

If you are an ex Student – how do you think a school that belongs ot he community can help other growing students?

If you are a teacher – do let us know how you can assist and how you think our own free school can be different?

We would like to welcome all your opinions. Please email This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it with your feedback.

Property Steering Committee
News

Dear Members, Salaamun Alaykum

For more than 5 years now, our community has been unsuccessfully trying for a new site and location in order to accommodate our widening breadth of activities as well as growing size of the community.

The onus of exploring opportunities has always laid on the elected Executive Committees that have been changing every two years.

Over the past two years, there has been considerable progress in charting out our needs assessment and the community is now in a comfortable position to proactively search for properties that would suit our requirement rather than retrofitting what becomes available in the market.

The current EC therefore proposes to appoint a committee that will not only survive the changes of the ECs, but also actively search for suitable alternative sites for our centre. Such a committee will comprise primarily of members who have expertise and experience in Project Management.

We are looking for a group of three to five members of the community who can display the following:
1)    Interest and passion for community affairs
2)    Background, profession, expertise and/or experience in project management
3)    Dedication – Estimated time would be running to several hours a week

If you feel you are capable and willing to do this, please send your CV as well as a personal statement explaining how you think you are suited for this task to our specially created email for the purpose: This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it

The EC will Inshallah appoint an independent person to review the applications and form a team which will be announced to the General Body at the next AGM.

New Constitution
News

Dear Members, Salaamun Alaykum

The current constitution of the KSIMC of London was last studied in 1992. Since then the community has grown and times have moved forward.

It is our contention that we need to revisit our constitution and allow for some major and fundamental changes to be incorporated into it.

The current EC entrusted this to a special team of our community members and also engaged the services of a professional legal firm to help review our current as well as proposed constitution.

Our biggest challenge is to have a balance between the regulations of the Charities Commission of UK as well as abide by our Islamic Sharia guidelines in what we do.

The team has prepared a draft proposed revised constitution that would need feedback and opinions from wide sections of the community.

Our first consultation had been with past leaders of the community and we are scheduled to have consultations with the youths, ladies and the general public members of the community.

As we progress with our consultations, please find a draft copy that can be downloaded by clicking here.

We would like to receive your comments on the proposed revised constitution so that we are synchronised in our thoughts and vision by the time we have our Constitutional Conference to adopt this new constitution.

To save time on the day of the conference, we would appreciate your feedback in advance. Please write to us on This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it with any comments/opinions/suggestions you may have or you may contact our EC member spearheading this task, Dr Munir Datoo.

YDD (Youth Dua Drive) 2014
News

Aims & Objectives:
YDD enters its 7th year and with the blessings of the Almighty, is moving from strength to strength. It is however important that the aims and objectives of YDD are made transparent for all so that we can work together for the betterment of our children and youth.

YDD has been set up to act as a “refresher programme” for our youngsters particularly in the recitation of Dua’s commonly recited during the Holy Month of Ramadhan. The emphasis is to polish, brush-up and enhance the level of recitation of Dua’s.

Entry Criteria:
To allow YDD to meet its objective, it is important that those attending are able to recite “big” Qur’an with some degree of fluency. Your child may be required to be pre-screened upon registration to ensure they meet the above criteria. We appreciate that there may be children who fall short of the above requirement, but at this stage, due to limited resources at our disposal, we can only accept children who demonstrate the above criteria.

As far as age criteria goes, provided the above criteria is first met, we will accept children between the ages 7 to 16

Dua classes:
YDD will cater for recitation of the following Dua’s: 3 Short Dua’s (recited after Maghrib/Eisha Salaat) and Dua Iftetah. Please note: there will be no classes for Dua Jawshan Kabeer.

Dates:
Classes will commence on Thursday 24th April 2014.

Main Hall / ELC allocation:
A child wishing to recite one of the Dua’s taught within YDD will need to be screened by the YDD teachers before their name is submitted to the Mukhi sub-committee for allocation. (This applies to both boys and girls)
