Ashre Muharram 1431 Quiz Launched
ELC - English Listening Centre

This Ashre Muharram sees the return of the ELC online quiz competition. Every few lectures, a quiz will be posted online and participants are given about 48 hours to complete the quiz. Prizes will inshAllah be awarded to the participants with the most correct answers.

The purpose of the quiz goes well beyond the lure of prize money. Lectures such as this years series "Qiyamah: The Countdown To Eternity" are an important learning opportunity for us all. However, despite listing to speakers night after night, much of what is said is forgotten. The best way to retain information is to "use" it; recalling information regularly moves this knowledge from the short to longer term memories and inshallah will allow us to remember the lessons for longer.

Hujjat ELC 10 Year Anniversary
ELC - English Listening Centre
ELC_10_year_logoEarlier this year, the Hujjat English Listening Centre (ELC) marked 10 years of serving the community. The ELC work, at hujjat, to provide an English service that runs in parallel to the Urdu program in the main hall. The ELC was born out of the successful programmes for boys in the Annex building and moved to its home of the first floor in June 1999 (Ashra-e-Zainabiyya 1419). It has seen a raft of world renowned speakers, reciters and lecturers, and has been an opportunity for home-grown english Aalims and reciters as well.

Inshallah the ELC will be celebrating its 10th Anniversary on SATURDAY 19 SEPTEMBER 2009 in the main hall, where the guest speaker will inshallah be Sayed Mahdi Modarresi. This will be Sayed's only english lecture during this holy month and is an excellent opportunity to listen to this great Aalim. In addition to this there will also be English qasidas by our very own, home grown, Voices of Passion and much more. The ELC extends an invitation to all community members to join in the celebrations.

Poem on ELC
ELC - English Listening Centre

The ELC's was opened, now over 10 years ago,
giving those who spoke English, somewhere in the mosque to go.
Lectures could be understood, recitations comprehended,
a full program in English, from the start till the main hall ended.

What started in the Annex, grew out of its old boots,
and to the first floor it was relocated, and bedded down new roots.
From recitations to lecturer, expectations they did rebuild,
Datoo and Dharamsi left big shoes to be filled.

Tejani, Kanji and then Jaffer, took on the challenge on the ground
and brought the organisation, forward leaps and bounds.
The team of people helping, every year getting bigger,
members of all ages, serving with such vigour.
