Martyrdom of Fatima Zehra (sa) and the Last day of her life - Will of Fatimah Zehra (sa) Print E-mail
Articles

images-stories-h-fatemeh-300x221The account of the last day of her life clearly shows what kind of a lady was this daughter of Holy Prophet Muhammad (saw). It was 3rd day of the Islamic Lunar Calendar month,Jamadi al-Thani, year eleven after Hijrah. Fatimah Zehra (sa) told the household that she was feeling better, the pain in her ribs and in her hand was not so severe and that her fever had come down. Then she started bathing the children, immediately Imam Ali (as) and Bibi Fizza (ra) came to her assistance. She got those children bathed, dressed and fed, then sent them away to her cousin.

Imam Ali (as) was surprised to find that his dear wife, Fatima Zehra (sa) had left her bed and had started doing the housework; he asked her about it and she replied: "This is the last day of my life. I wanted to wash my children's hair and clothes, because they will soon be orphans, without a mother!"

Imam Ali (as) then asked her about the source of knowledge of this news (the day of her departure). Fatima Zehra (sa) told him that she had seen the Messenger of Allah, Muhammad (saw) in her dream and he had told her that she was going to join him that night. She then asked Imam Ali (as) to execute her will.

Hujjat EC Steps Up to the 10k Challenge Print E-mail
News

4,000. 4,000? 4,000!

It came as a shock to me. There I was merrily advising a succession of patients to walk more and aim for the magical 10,000 steps, yet all I had managed that day was a paltry 4,000 steps. The pattern repeated itself the next day and the next. It was only until I started monitoring my own activity levels a bit more diligently with the aid of a Fitbit device that the extent of my sedentary lifestyle struck me. Yes, I played the odd game of squash. Yes, I kicked a football around with my boys. Yes, I walked to the waiting room for every patient to call them in by name. However, despite all of this I was not even close to hitting 10,000 steps in a day.

On a daily basis I was seeing patients the same age as me, some perhaps younger, being diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes, raised cholesterol levels and obesity. In a sense I began to see myself in all of these individuals, sitting on the opposite side of the desk to me.

The disease of inactivity takes full advantage of South-East Asian genes and very quickly prevents you from fitting into your jeans.

I decided to do something about it. I did not want to be a statistic. I invested in a standing desk to use while doing my admin. I incorporated a brisk 30 minute walk into my day accompanied by a colleague. I joined up to a group of like minded friends from the community for some healthy competition and managed to convince my family to challenge themselves too. I now regularly hit 10,000 steps per day and feel all the better for it (and the blood results speak for themselves!)

The value of making health conscious decisions with the support of a group of friends and community cannot be understated. This is why the Hujjat EC applauds this groundbreaking initiative led by our local fitness guru Dr Mahmood Mawjee on behalf of the World Federation.

The philosophy of prevention is key to the Health, Social and Welfare Board's approach to improving the health of the community. We were staggered to learn that just 20 minutes of walking a day cuts your risk of premature death by almost a third.

We urge you to join the EC in signing up to the 10,000 Steps Challenge and join us in looking forward to weight loss, reduced risk of heart disease, strengthened bones, increased strength, improved sleep and so much more!

Syria Appeal Print E-mail
News

wfaidsyriaWF-AID is working inside Syria and through the Damascus co-ordination office, we will work to provide both short-term and long-term solutions.

Syria is still in turmoil after years of conflict and around 6 million people are left internally displaced, having escaped their hometowns in search for safety. The UNHCR estimates that some of the 4.8 million refugees those who may have been living temporarily in neighbouring countries are now returning to their homeland after years of displacement.

WF-AID are supporting the Lady Zaynab Helping Hands Syria Appeal to raise funds for medical assessments and treatments, along with emergency aid in the form of food baskets, financial gifts, education supplies and home supplies.

Towns lay in ruins and homes remain gutted due to fires and explosions, forcing families to seek a new home elsewhere. Some Syrian widows and orphans have travelled as far as 350km to reach the Sayeda Zainab (AS) area, in search of solitude and safety.

£100 for immediate aid, in the form of food baskets, financial aid, educational and home supplies for Syriran mothers, children and orphans.

£150 for providing medical assessments, treatments and medicine for Syrian mothers, children and orphans.
