Senior designates officer: Farazana Hirji Karawalli Farzana Hirji Karawalli is a registered learning disabilities nurse and a social worker. She has worked in child protection and child in need services. She has adult safeguarding experience from working in the Harrow safeguarding team, as a hospital discharge social worker as well as safeguarding within the community services. Farzana has also worked as a social worker with cases under prevent. She has experience in a range of safeguarding cases affecting children and adults, including: domestic violence, sexual abuse, neglect, female genital mutilation, forced marriage and emotional harm. Deputy designated officer: Shabbir Merali Dr Shabbir Merali is a GP working in Ruislip and he has involvement with safeguarding cases on a regular basis. A GP has a central role in identifying a vulnerable patient, as often it is them who will be the first point of contact and need to be able to identify the patient’s concern and assess the risk or danger they are under. It is also important for the GP to be aware from the point of identification, how to handle the case appropriately and sensitively.
Dr Merali is able to bring this experience to Hujjat safeguarding for the benefit of safeguarding the community
