Our Own School?In: Latest News
Dear Members, Salaamun Alaykum
A community school has always been an ambition aspired by every community and more so ours wherever we have been stationed. Back in East Africa, it was the lack of quality education in government run schools that motivated us to have our own schools which we, as a community, successfully run in Kenya, Tanzania, Madagascar and even in Pakistan and India.
Moving to the West, whilst we found reasonable quality of education available in government run schools, we faced different challenges. Now, the challenges that motivate us to have our own schools are determined by our dedication to maintain our core values as taught to us by both our religion and our culture. Thus, Canada and the US have both flourished in having our own schools.
The concept was ot have a similar quality of education as regulated by the governments of the countries we reside in and to simultaneously provide an environment conducive to maintaining our core values.
In the UK, the government has now initiated a drive in which they will support efforts made by local communities to set up their own schools – within certain parameters governed by them.
Instead of relying on private funding for a private school, the current EC of the KSIMC believe we have to exploit the opportunities granted to us by the government to set up our own school.
To this end, we invited members of the community in the field of education to join hands with us to embark on this task of establishing our own school. We have had two meetings in the past to decide a roadmap on moving forward and are now proceeding to apply to the government for a free school by appointing a professional consultancy firm to handle our application. This firm will be assisted by members of our community determined to establish our own school.
We would like to invite your thoughts as we progress.
